Welcome BOP Conference 2020; Photography and the Tech Evolution

The Future of Photography is most exciting. Judging from the standpoint of where photography has come from in the last couple hundred years; from the point hole camera, to the steel plate camera past several generations unto full-frame electronic sensors of today, it has been an amazing journey and one can only but look towards what the future holds.

The variety of cameras currently available in the imaging world is unlike anything in all of history from smartphones packing cameras that can produce incredibly stunning imagery with details and professional cameras ranging from Micro 4/3 to APS-C sensors, drones, the 35mm Sensor commonly known as full frame sensors and medium format cameras, there’s a wide range for people to go out there, capture stunning images whilst also telling compelling visual stories but with variety comes the issue of ‘flooding, When there are too many speakers on a podium, its likened that almost no voice will be heard. Also the emergence of social media, platforms to share the art of photography but also giving access to millions of eyes, some with the not so best of intents.

In this current environment with so much is going on, it’s almost easy to get lost in all the technological advancements and forget what photography truly is at its core; A story telling tool. It’s with this goal in mind that the Business of Photography Conference 2020 is themed “Photography and the Tech Evolution”. The conference is aimed at navigating the complex techno-ecological system that photographers find themselves in the 21st century, help them best utilize the opportunities that these advancements are offering whilst still maintaining what photography is at its core; A means to tell our individual stories.

The Business of Photography in collaboration with The British Council presents, ‘Alternative Pathways for Photographers’. This seminar is in line with British Council’s ‘Creative Hustle” Initiative, the Creative Hustle is a seminar-style series of events that offers young people aged 18 – 35 the opportunity to gain awareness of the breadth of artistic and non-artistic livelihood opportunities available across creative sector value chains.

The creative hustle series basically encourages creative’s to improve their art by learning from experts in their various fields and this is no exception, as  some of the brightest and most talented photographers in Nigeria will be speaking; Yagazie Eguare (Gazmadu Studios), Abisola Ijalana (M12 Photography), Kola Oshalusi (Insignia Media) and Daniel Obasi.

The Business of Photography is an initiative that seeks to promote and improve photography in all spheres in Africa, the brain behind The Business of Photography; Kola Oshalusi is excited to be partnering with The British Council in its Creative Hustle series.  In a statement he said, ‘The business of Photography collaboration with the British Council was borne out of the need to improve the structure of the photography industry, as the industry needs reinventing in many areas,  being a part of the Creative Hustle series will help us have conversations about photography and how we can do things better’.

The panel will feature 5 stakeholders within the African fashion and photography industry which includes; Arieta Mujay, Adia Sowho, Stephen Tayo, Ozinna Anumudu and Adebayo Oke Lawal.

Our aim is to educate and inspire young photographers and designers on how they can start and continue to propose original narratives within their chosen fields while also maintaining financial sustainability.

Using expertise and experiences from established industry stakeholders, we hope more creative talent can attempt more innovative paths within their creative sectors.

Arieta Mujay is  a fashion creative, curator  and marketing consultant  that has worked In various capacities for 15 years across the UK and Africa

Starting out as a window dresser for GAP which allowed her access to seeing how looks are pulled together as worldwide GAP is applauded or their fabulous and consistent windows, while working as a window dresser for GAP in Brighton she started to get involved in styling.

Getting back to London, she started to assist a few veteran stylists and PR Guru Sarah Walter on a weekly basis while working as a visual merchandiser and fitting room stylist. She also got work experience at fashion magazines like RED, Just 19, Sneak and smash hits in the UK as the fashion intern.

She then moved on to fashion PR and worked as press officer for New look on the UK high street but still styled part-time, Arieta rose to the position of PR Manager before leaving the company for another High street Brand River Island where her duties included running the PR Department, being the fashion Editor of the River Island In store Magazine as well as shoot director and stylist for some of the online e-commerce content.

Arieta has styled a host of celebrities from Boy bands to TV presenters like Myleen Klass, June Sarpong, and supermodels Oluchi, LiyaKadebe, Tyson Beckford while working as a stylist for Arise Magazine. Other Celebrity clients and jobs include, styling Kelis as face of River Island sponsored Graduate fashion week 2009, and Amber Le Bon in 2010. Arieta also styledKelly Rowland, Alesha Dixon, Pixie Lott and Lily Allen for the Princes trust.

She has styled Look books for Renowned African designers Deola Sagoes Spring/Summer 2007 look book, Tiffany Amber Spring Summer 12 look book as well as acting as Brand advisor for both.

Arieta also styled and worked on the 1st Arise Magazine fashion show in the UK in 2008, worked as stylist for Deola Sagoe’s collection at AFI International fashion week in Johannesburg 2010 during the world cup as well as stylist and event PR for Tiffany Amber’s presentation at London Fashion Week in Sept 2011.

As head of PR UK for River Island, Arietaworked closely on the Rihanna for River Island collaboration and got to go on the 777 tour, a life changing experience. She also worked with the British Fashion Council to bring the collection to be shown at the SS13/AW13 shows as well as kick off the Fash/ON Film festival during London fashion week.

In 2012, She embarked on a sabbatical across Africa visiting 9 countries in 4 weeks to get an understanding of the business of fashion on the continent as well as reconnect with designers she had worked with at various fashion week’s on the continent. Since then, Arieta has continued to work on Lagos Fashion and Design week either as the head stylist or in a production capacity, as the creative director of Gabaronefashion week in Bostwana and as a panelist at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Johannesburg.

In 2013, Arieta launched African creative collective a PR and brand consultancy with the sole aim of nurturing African creative talent in the UK and as an advisor to brand and retailers who are interested in activations across the continent. Companies she has consulted for include, Unilever, the UK TRADE AND INVESTMENT where she wrote a paper on the opportunities in Nigerian Retail and most recently the Ethical Fashion Initiative, which is an incentive of the United Nations. Brands worked with at ACC include, ChichiaLondon, OrangeCulture, Ominislondon and Josh&Nicol.

Working with Kathy Shanoy of Shake-the-dust and Baroness Lola Young, Arieta has set up a series of talks with creative influential’s from Africa and the diaspora called “In conversation with” held at the House of Lords.

Arieta is a reviewer and contributor for Cosmopolitan Magazine’s online platform, a mentor to young businesses and an avid supporter of female empowerment.

Currently working on a passion project on the fashion industry in Africa which should be released in 2020.

Ozinna Anumudu is passionate about two things – fashion & branding. Having secured a bachelor’s degree in Economics in The United States, she pursued a masters in a field she was more passionate about, Communication, in Paris. Thereafter, she relocated to Nigeria and has created a niche market for herself with branding & the Nigerian Fashion Industry in under three years.

Zina is the founder of brand management company, The Style Concierge, which caters to creatives & businesses in the fashion & lifestyle industry. serves as a medium for Zina to share her work, her fashion, her life and everything in between.

Adebayo Oke-Lawal has been designing since the age of 10, and launched his own line, Orange Culture, in 2011. Trained as a banker with no formal fashion education, he taught himself to sew throughout internships with various designers before debuting his inaugural collection in at 2011 Lagos Fashion & Design Week. Since its launch, the brand has offered universal silhouettes with an African touch that have drawn attention both on the designer’s home continent as well as on an international stage. In 2014, Orange Culture was a finalist for the LVMH Prize, and as the brand evolves, Oke-Lawal continues to create androgynous looks that are defined by a mixture of Nigerian-inspired prints and contemporary urban streetwear.

To date, Orange Culture has collaborated with international brands such as Dennis Osadebe, Rokus London, and Maxivive, and recently, Oke-Lawal partnered with Nigerian artist Davido to design a limited-edition collection that was sold exclusively at Selfridges. Drawing inspiration from his country and his heritage, Oke-Lawal has created a truly Nigerian line with an international appeal.

Stephen Tayo is a vault of unbridled raw talent and vibrant energy. He has made a name for himself by turning the mundane into art.

With his incredible eye, Tayo manages to capture the beauty of daily life in Lagos and find style in the most unexpected places. From photographing young boys on the beach in incongruous designer sunglasses to snapping Auntys heading to church in their formidable geles, Tayo’s images strike a chord.

This Lagos-based Nigerian photographer’s works have gained appearance in It’s Nice ThatINDIE magazine and Coeval Magazine and he has also worked with Poppy Lissiman and ALARA Lagos.

Adia Sowho is the Managing Director/ VP of Growth at Mines, a fintech
company founded in 2014 which provides a digital platform that enables
institutions such as banks, telcos and retailers in emerging markets to offer
credit products to their customers with no smartphones required.

Prior to this position, she was the Director of Digital Business at 9mobile
(formerly Etisalat Nigeria) where she partnered with startups to deliver mobile
content, advertising, financial and API services resulting in a 10x revenue
growth during her time there.

She started her career as a Radio Frequency Engineer at a US mobile operator
called U.S. Cellular. After obtaining an MBA from the Kellogg School of
Management and a stint as a management consultant at Deloitte Consulting’s
Chicago office, she returned home to Nigeria.

Adia is passionate about using technology to address problems ranging from
entertainment to financial services. She believes that in today’s world much
can be achieved through intelligent technology and a ferocious hunger for
change. An Electronic and Electrical Engineer by training, problem-solving is at
her core. She believes that true digital transformation rests in the hands of
local entrepreneurs with localized solutions that are achievable primarily
through collaboration.

Photography enthusiast will not forget The Business of Photography 2019 in a hurry, as it brought together the best brains in Nigeria under one roof to educate photographers and intending photographers about different aspects of the photography business. The event took place on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos.
The event began with an opening speech from the conveyer of the event, Kola Oshalusi and was hosted by Lamide Akintobi and Kabutey Ocansey.
The first-panel session had Jite Ovuraye,(Associate Producer, Accelerate TV) as the moderator and the panellists included Reze Bonna, (international fashion photographer) and  Bayo Omoboriowo (personal photographer of the President of Nigeria).
They engaged in a discussion that highlighted the impact of positive storytelling on a brand or project.
The second panel session was moderated by Tewa Onasanya ( founder of Exquisite magazine), while TY Bello (creative director of TY Bello photographer), Ijeoma Balogun, (founder of Redrick PR),  Chris Omojiade ( life coach), Ayona Aguele Trimnell (CEO, Bantu Photos represented by Mr. Chima)  and Colette Otusheso (Head Accelerate TV) were panellists.
They discussed branding, the role of PR/marketing strategy in the photography industry.
The third panel session was moderated by Lehle Balde (Senior Associate, Business Day), with Charles Anyawu (Head SME Enterprise at LSETF, representing Akintunde Oyebode the CEO of LSETF), Engr. Chris Ifeanyi Oputa (CEO Studio 24), Uzoma Dozie (GMD/CEO Diamond Bank) on the panel and they discussed The financing of the photography industry as well as the role of the government.
The fourth panel session had Toyosi Etim- Effiong (TV Producer Arise TV) as the moderator and the panellist included Georgette Monnou (Media and Entertainment Lawyer), Kelechi Amadi Obi (Lawyer/international Photographer) and Lucky Idike (CEO LOI Partners), George Okoro ( Renowned Wedding Photographer/Publisher) they  discussed intellectual property and legislature in shaping the visual narrative.
The final panel session was moderated by Edwin Okolo, (Head of content, Red Africa) and the panelists were documentary photographers; Adekanye Olusegun, Tolani Alli, Bernard Kalu, Tobi Balogun (commercial photographer) and Obi Somto. These set of panellists thoroughly discussed Redefining the photography Industry.
Asides the panel sessions, there were master classes on various aspects of photography such as Architecture (Kelechi Amadi Obi) Products (Debayo Rotilu), ( Jide Odukoya) and Youtube (Keli Abel). Fade Ogunro (On Air Personality) also did a presentation on her brand.
The event ended with networking as well as a private and public photography viewing session curated by The White Space.

Announcing our Second set of panellists. The Business of Photography Conference is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Landmark, Event Center, Lagos. It promises to be bigger than the maiden edition. The maiden edition which took place on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 opened its doors to over a thousand participants who learnt all about the basics of the business of photography, the challenges and the solutions as well as access to microfinance to scale in business.
This year’s event doors will open at 8 am and end at 9 pm. The conference would feature five segments; the Opening, the Conversation (panel session), Break out time (master classes), Cocktails/Networking and Exhibition. During the conversation segment, attendees would have the opportunity to listen to and chat with award-winning Nigerian photographers about the future of photography in Nigeria.

Uzoma Dozie, CEO of former Diamond Bank PLC, is not only an inspiring leader but also a remarkable individual.
He is known for his calm demeanour as well as his multi-tasking abilities and an eternal yearning to learn more.
Known for his down to earth approach, Mr. Dozie began his journey with Diamond Bank in 1998 and since then he has played several roles with utmost perfection.
He started working there as an Assistant Manager and Head of the Bank’s Oil and Gas Group, where he expanded the Bank’s Oil and Gas businesses.
Mr. Dozie used his strong background in Retail Banking, Management, and Organizational Behaviour to set up the Personal Banking Group at the Bank.
Combining his passion for technology with his insights and operational expertise, he fostered a culture of innovation at the Bank. He resurrected e-banking and introduced Diamond Mobile app. He also launched Diamond Y’ello which offers a safe and easy means of opening and operating a full bank account from the convenience of MTN Mobile phones.
Mr. Dozie believes that the success of retail banking lies in its convenience; accessibility and cost-effectiveness for the customers.
Kelechi Amadi-Obi, after obtaining a law degree and his call to bar in 1993, settled to full-time studio art. He has earned international renown for both his photography and paintings. His unique style and mastery of aesthetics and creative lighting in his paintings have been reinvented in his photography to create understanding, dynamic and result oriented photography for his clients.
Some of his works have been featured in exhibitions within and outside Nigeria. These include; 2006
“Snap Judgement” – New Position in Contemporary African Photography, International Centre of
Photography, New York, USA,2005 “Depth of Field” South London Gallery, UK, 2004, “Lagos” Ifa Gallery, Stuttgart, Germany, 2003 “Transferts” Africalia, Brussels, Belgium. In 2004, he won the St.Moritz Style Award for Photography.

George Okoro is a renowned and award winning photographer in Nigeria and the publisher of George Okoro Weddings and Lifestyle magazine. His portfolio ranges from weddings across the globe covering countries like the UAE, UK, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Spain, Italy and of course across most of the states in Nigeria. In 2016, he was nominated for the prestigious Future wards for “business professional of the year” and in 2018 he won the award for “Event Photographer of the year” by association of events and party planner of Nigeria. His work has been published in several magazines and journals in Nigeria and the Diaspora. His career extends beyond photography, after his published the first edition of George Okoro Wedding and Lifestyle magazine in 2017. A magazine designed to celebrate and foster growth and collaborations in the event and wedding photography space. George Okoro believe that for the industry to continue on the growth path, creatives need to start thinking like businesses so we can attract the right attention and investment needed to achieve exponential growth.
Obi Somto was born on August 1, 1988, in Lagos, Nigeria, Somto has always been art inclined – to draw, paint, mould and carve. After he discovered Photoshop and Fireworks, he launched his career as a graphic designer and illustrator, and has been shooting professionally since 2010.
He brings a unique blend of experience, vision and distinction to his style of photography. He has been commissioned by several top advertising agencies with clients like First bank, Etisalat, Union Bank and Virgin Atlantic. He has photographed several Nigerian celebrities and dignitaries and has become a go to name for portraits in Nigeria
He holds a degree in Banking and Finance from Babcock University.
A graduate of Pure and Applied Chemistry from the University of Lagos, Bayo Omoboriowo is a professional photographer. His unwavering passion for development influenced his involvement in the genre of photography he simply calls ‘Reality Photography’.
Bayo believes the pictures he takes today are materials of communication for tomorrow. This drives him all around the Africa and beyond as he tells the story of everyday reality. His works have been widely published and with his series on Nigerian Unsung Heroines which was featured on CNN, he is on a mission to celebrate exceptional people contributing to the development of Nigeria.
An inspiration to young Nigerians, Bayo has trained many aspiring photographers and mentors several award winning photo artists. He has been part of various workshops, conferences and programmes where he has impacted countless numbers of lives using photography as a channel.
He is presently the Personal Photographer to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.
He has won many awards, including Sundance Institute Short-film Challenge 2014, the MTN Afrinolly Short-film Competition 2013, and the Future Awards Creative Artist of the Year 2012.
He is the author of Buhari: A New Beginning and Curator of Lagos: A City in Progress which was used in celebration of Lagos at 50 and is on his journey to his 3rd book project.
Ijeoma Balogun is an award-winning journalist, relationship builder and the Founder/ CEO of Redrick Public Relations, a PR agency specialising in designing and executing strategic integrated campaigns that support enterprises and start-ups to innovate, accelerate and grow. Tobbie is the lead photographer at TCD Concepts. His areas of interests range from Music to Fashion, Food, Documentaries, Lifestyle and Traditional portraiture.

His mission is to merge technical proficiency with aesthetic intuition to produce rich, beautiful and effective high quality photographs suitable for print, web and other platforms. While this role has historically had female representation, she battles hard to push for more gender equality and prides herself as a proponent of equity in her profession.

As her true passion for photography emerged, she transformed from being medical school bound to becoming obsessed with photography and telling her stories with lens.

Tolani Alli continues to be a trailblazer and unapologetic in redefining what it means to be Nigeria, American and global citizen. In the delivering keynote presentation at the world.

Colette Otusheso is an experienced, value-driven marketing, communications and project management professional with a proven record of championing organizational wide initiatives within cross-functional teams.

Colette has worked with well-established global and local organizations including VIACOM International Media Networks Africa and MNET Africa. She was instrumental in the successful launch of several Africa Magic channels across several African countries as well as the marketing of MNET’s Tinsel, Big Brother Africa and other MNET shows. Everywhere you go in Nigeria, this is the common phrase of the time. A country struggling with its desires for the shiny flash and sleek lines of 21st-century modernity, glimpsed through Instagram and cable tv, juxtaposed with the reality ‘on the ground’ – limited or failing infrastructure and a physical environment totally frayed at the edges.
A city like Lagos has always striven to expand towards the new instead of regenerating the old. In its wake, we are left with hollowed out infrastructure, abandoned building entire industrial zones become eerie dilapidated ghost towns. Whatever happened to Tinapa?

We shape our narratives by first understanding our current and past states of mind, documenting our realities to inform the framework of our future dreams. So we can hopefully move from a ‘managed’ state ‘ to a state of ‘considered engagement’

This series asks photographers to document the realities of these spaces left behind, whose empty corridors and broken windows tell the real story of the things we aspire.

“Looking at the Development and neglect of industries across the Country”.

In recent times the need to efficiently monetize the photography industry and define its future as a major part of the current and future national revenue generation sector has become more important.

This year’s edition themed “Shaping the Narrative” has a fantastic line up of panellists.

George Osodi is an award-winning internationally acclaimed Nigerian Photographer. His photographs range between photojournalism and artistic documentary, and he has worked on various photography projects globally with his works exhibited in several Museums, Biennial’s and in institutional Art Spaces, such as Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany 2007, a Participant of the 2015 Venice Architectural Biennale, as part of the Canadian Pavilion.

A first prize winner of Fuji Africa photographer of the year 2004, and winner of a Sony world photography award 2009. He participated as a juror of World Press Photo competition in 2016. Osodi’s works are in the collections of various Museums around the world,among which includes the Smithsonian U.S.A, Newark Museum U.S.A, National Museum of Greece, Museumslandscha Hessen Kassel in Germany, Modena museum Italy, ADF collection in Paris, Ford foundation Lagos Nigeria, Martin Margiles Collection, Miami, US and a number of private collections.

Osodi is the author a photography book “Delta Nigeria – The Rape of Paradise”. He has also held talks at various Museums and institutions globally including Columbia University, New York U.S.A, Indianapolis University U.S.A, University of Wales, Newport, UK, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, Nigeria. National Museum of Contemporary Art , Oslo, Norway, EMET, Athens , Greece, 2010 and the Internationonal Slavery Museum Liverpool.

Bernard Kalu is a documentary photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria; his work is inspired by a passion to explore life and humanity.

Photography is drawing with light and he’s adopted it as a tool to not only tell stories but preserve today for the future. Bernard began working in photography in 2014, exploring street documentary and creative twists to wedding photography- with Verteller Studios. He is a certified canon master storyteller, first runner up in the 2017 NatGeo portfolio review and has been on assignment with a number of organizations within and outside Nigeria. To mention a few, #MyMakoko project by NBNL, Respiratory stories for The Lancet, African tourism project by MyAfricanPassport Inc. and so on. Also, he’s a very passionate tutor/mentor to a good number of upcoming visual storytellers.
He had his first exhibition early 2017 at the Revolving Art Gallery.

More recently, he has begun focusing on raising awareness about environmental and social issues in his home country, Nigeria.

Reze Bonna is a trained architect and multi-award winning photographer, recently being awarded Best Fashion Photographer Africa 2017 at the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, which held in Kampala, Uganda 2017 and The Fashions Finest Awards, Lagos 2018 amongst others.. His work is featured in several international publications including Vogue Italia, GQ, Architectural Digest, Menshealth etc and featured in CNN, Fashion One, Fashion TV, Spice tv, with his images currently exhibited in the Grammy Museum as a part of the African music section. He has worked with personalities like Bill Clinton, Goodluck Jonathan, Roberto Cavalli, The late Franca Sozanni (Vogue Italia), Suzie Menkes, Kirk Franklin, Piers Morgan, Janice Dickenson etc. He runs photography outfits in South Africa, The USA and Nigeria, servicing a number of the agencies in the countries. He is currently the official photographer for the AFI Cape town and Johannesburg Fashion weeks, Mens health Magazine Fashion show, David Tlale Brand and also for The Intern by David Tlale, and formerly been the official photographer for the Arise fashion Week in Nigeria, and has covered Fashion Weeks in London (LFW), Lagos (LFDW, MMR, AFW, GTFashion weekend), Dubai (Arab Fashion Week) and South Africa. He has a gift of finding beauty in everyone, and a persona that easily puts his subjects at ease. His inspiration from art and architecture, and the principles of it, like Form and Function, Light and shade, shapes, flexibility, strength of material, and perspective, are expressed strongly in his work. Pi88He is a founding member of the group REZolution which is a collective of creative photographers and a member of the Camera Club of Johannesburg, and the Professional Photographers of America.

Akintunde Oyebode is a trained Economist, passionate about sustainable development, sustainable finance and youth unemployment. He began his career as a Research Assistant at the Lagos Business School, and spent over a decade in various banking roles with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Stanbic IBTC Bank. Akin is the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), established to provide financial support to residents of Lagos State, for job and wealth creation and to tackle unemployment. His key focus at the LSETF is on promoting entrepreneurship by improving access to finance, strengthening the institutional capacity of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and formulating policies designed to improve the business environment in Lagos State. Prior to his role as Executive Secretary of the LSETF, Akin was the Head of SME Banking at Stanbic IBTC Bank.

Georgette Monnou is an Associate at Olaniwun Ajayi LP, and works in the firms Finance & Capital Markets Practice and Entertainment, Leisure & Media Practice. Her experience spans advising on diverse finance matters including equity financing, local and international debt financing, derivatives transactions as well as the intricacies of drafting technical Entertainment and Media contracts. Having also gained litigation experience, Georgette has provided notable companies with legal representation across superior courts in Nigeria, which also included launching a test case for defamation against one of Nigeria’s foremost bloggers. Georgette regularly consults for members of the creative arts on their rights, contractual needs and potential areas of expansion in the Entertainment Industry with her commercial knowledge stemming from having gained experience working in radio, film and television.

As a creative, Georgette regularly writes for Bella Naija, Thought Catalog, Creativity Turf and other notable online platforms.

Georgette is a graduate of Law from the University of Exeter and has completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP University specializing in Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law and Debt Finance. She is also an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Christopher Ehinomen Omoijiade “CEO” often referred to as “The Dean of Value Creation” is a Professional Speaker, Coach, Mentor and Innovative Consultant; he is the Chief Executive of The Chris Omoijiade Company, a leadership, Management and innovative consultancy boutique firm dedicated to effective implementation of tools to enhance the value proposition and productivity of individuals, companies and the public Sector.

He is also a lawyer with over a decade experience in commercial law and is an entrepreneur responsible for spearheading the launch of a number of business ventures he presently sits on the board as Partner and Director in various sectors such as Law, Property, financial Investment, Foreign Exchange, Education, Marketing & Communications, Trading and the Travel & Hospitality Industry

Chris Belongs to a number of organizations and associations and is actively involved in volunteerism. He lives in the beautiful city of Lagos and is happily married, and is an unrepentant reader with an unchecked addiction for knowledge and is on cue in becoming an author in 2019 with an upcoming book chronicling views and comments on life and business with a mission to touch a million unique individuals

He is a proud soccer lover sharing a unique relationship with his other love Manchester United.

Adebayo Rotilu preferably called “Debayo” is a Full time Product and Commercial Photo-Artist based in Nigeria. He’s got an Educational background in Computing and Project management with an MSc from the University of Glamorgan UK. He is the founder and the Creative Director for TWELVE05 IMPRESSIONS (A subsidiary of TWELVE05 PHOTO FACTORY) a company founded out of his passion for the Art and Science of Photography.

His journey began in 2012 when he searched for African images online and only saw images of poverty, chaos and anarchy; images which lacked visual appeal. He has since contributed immensely to the African cultural and business gallery and he works with creative agencies and directors their visuals to life.

Debayo has been involved in a number of Photography Projects over the past decade, some of which include: Diageo Nigeria, Nigerian Bottling Company, Eat N Go Nigeria, Standard Bank

South Africa, House of Tara, Nasco Group, FMN Group (Golden Penny) So Fresh Nigeria and many more. Other brands he has worked with include, James Cubit Interior Architects, TW Magazine, to mention but a few.


Olusegun A. Adekanye is a professional wedding and portrait photographer and was born in Kaduna. He was raised in Kano and Lagos,but frequented his ancestral home in Offa, Kwara State until his departure from the country when he was 19. His Architecture degree which he started in Minna, Niger State, at the federal University of Technology, Minna, was completed at the University of Greenwich in London.

He lived in Copenhagen, Denmark for a year and a half where is career begun leading him to start B7K- in 2011 in Berlin, Germany. He doesn’t just take photographs; he encapsulates and preserves precious moments and memories. He is also has a penchant for the abstract and dramatic @b7k_photography

The business of photography conference was a success and it surpassed all expectations for a first time event. The event which took place on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Landmark Center Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos had over 1000 participants in attendance. The participants included, established photographers, up and coming Photographers, bloggers and photography enthusiasts who arrived even before the event was scheduled to start.

The event was hosted by Lamide Akintobi. There were various panel sessions where participants were able to learn and interact with various industries and photography experts.

The first panel session was moderated by Olive Emodi , with Henry Nwaeze (Big H Studios), Engr. Ifeanyi Oputa (Studio 24 boss), and TY Bello as panellists, where they discussed “The Evolution of Photography’. The second-panel session moderated by Tope Adenola (Horploadworks photography) had Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Emmanuel Oyeleke, Wani Olatunde, Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko and Georgette Monnou discussed ‘Creative Business Practice”.

There was a break after the second-panel session which enabled the participants to network with one another and also get one on one interactions and short mentorship sessions from the panellists.

The Keynote speech was delivered by Professor Pat Utomi, where he applauded the initiative and was impressed with the turnout of participants.

The master classes took place after the break and four of the most amazing and talented photographers out of Nigeria took various aspects of photography, the master classes where all paid for and fully booked several days before the event and more participants still pleaded to pay at the venue so as not to miss out.  Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko took the Commercial Photography class, Hakeem Salaam took Landscape and Architecture, Kelechi Amadi-Obi took Fashion and Editorial while TY Bello took the Portrait Photography class.

While the panel session was still ongoing Olumuyiwa Faulkner (Flutter Wave),  Sylvia Udemeh of Bridge Books and -August Udoh discussed ‘Effective and Creative Financing in the Creative Industry” this session was moderated by Ronke Adeola.

Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya being seasoned, well experienced and established in the Law Practice single-handedly talked about “The Legal and Legislative angle”.

Toyosi Etim-Effiong moderated the fourth panel session where Zubby Emodi, Shola Animashaun, Keli Abiel and Bukky Karibi-Whyte discussed ‘Content Monetization; The Way Forward”.

Sylvia Udemeh of Bridge Books also delivered a short presentation on “The Best Software Accounting Tool for Photographers”.

There was an exclusive private exhibition and cocktail event after the conference.  Beautiful photography pieces by Ty Bello, Yetunde Ayeni- Babaeko, Hakeem Salaam, Kola Oshalusi, Tobi Balogun and Reze Bonna were showcased at the exhibition.

The Business of Photography Conference is almost here and it promises to be exciting and extremely educating. The BOP Conference is aimed at bringing Photographers,  photography manufacturers,  service companies as well as photography retail businesses together under one roof to discuss, learn, exhibit, sell and buy everything photography.
