Eclectic 21 Set to Premiere Short Film Titled “Nkem” in May 2022

Eclectic 21 Ltd, the artistic content and cultural curator – producer of Yeye Cabaret – the biggest annual Mothers’ Day showcase in Nigeria is set to premiere its short film titled “Nkem” (My Own) on Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at The Wheathbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“Nkem” is a psychological drama based on surrogacy. It explores the intrigue of power play, economic opportunity, teenage pregnancy, culture clash, and emotional manipulation.

The script features two women – Uloma and Achebe on their journey to motherhood, under different circumstances. As they navigate their path on this journey – each dealing with their lot in life – the decision of one changes the narrative altogether with some dire consequences, especially for the unborn child.

In an intriguing way, Nkem is a story of ownership, ownership of the right, to love a child. When the narrative of motherhood is nuanced, the lines of morality can become blurred.

The short film – Nkem – invites viewers to bear witness to the price and prize of motherhood. Here, the moral code of who is right and who is wrong is simply a rhetorical question to ponder.

The refreshingly fun and entertaining short film is set to premiere at the annual Yeye Cabaret in May, which is aimed at celebrating mothers – the joy and pain of motherhood.

With an unexpected plot twist and a stellar lineup, Nkem is already set to be one short film that will keep people talking for a long time.

Commenting on the backstory of the film, Ayodele Ogundipe, Executive Producer and Director, states that the film is set to explore an uncommon area of motherhood that is often shied away from. He further explained the deep emotions portrayed in the film and how it is set to honor mothers on a special day, regardless of how they came to be mothers.

The short film written by Ingrid-Mary Okiya features Oluchi Odii, Tracey George, Floyd Igbo, Chikanmma Romanus, Okoro Uwale Essence, and Amos Mofaramola.
