Eclectic 21, Yeye Cabaret, Premiere Short Film Titled “Nkem” on Mothers’ Day

This is coming after the brand had gone on a 3-year hiatus owing to the pandemic and the need to rebrand and rejuvenate to match the trajectory of its vision to offer the ultimate Mother’s Day experience.

The short film premiered; “NKEM (My Own)”, produced and directed by Ayodele Ogundipe – Creative Director, Yeye Cabaret – buttresses the subject of surrogacy within the Nigerian society and gives insight into the possible paradigm shift toward parenthood among the millennial generation to reveal the unvarnished truth of the journey of motherhood that is often less represented.

Speaking on the objective of this year’s edition, Executive Producer and Director, Ayodele Ogundipe said, “The objective is to expand the scope and make Yeye Cabaret more socially relevant and impactful, discussing issues surrounding motherhood as it affects us in Nigeria in line with the reality of the political and social culture of our environment”.

Eclectic 21 Set to Premiere Short Film Titled “Nkem” in May 2022

Eclectic 21 Ltd, the artistic content and cultural curator – producer of Yeye Cabaret – the biggest annual Mothers’ Day showcase in Nigeria is set to premiere its short film titled “Nkem” (My Own) on Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at The Wheathbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“Nkem” is a psychological drama based on surrogacy. It explores the intrigue of power play, economic opportunity, teenage pregnancy, culture clash, and emotional manipulation.

The script features two women – Uloma and Achebe on their journey to motherhood, under different circumstances. As they navigate their path on this journey – each dealing with their lot in life – the decision of one changes the narrative altogether with some dire consequences, especially for the unborn child.

In an intriguing way, Nkem is a story of ownership, ownership of the right, to love a child. When the narrative of motherhood is nuanced, the lines of morality can become blurred.

The short film – Nkem – invites viewers to bear witness to the price and prize of motherhood. Here, the moral code of who is right and who is wrong is simply a rhetorical question to ponder.

The refreshingly fun and entertaining short film is set to premiere at the annual Yeye Cabaret in May, which is aimed at celebrating mothers – the joy and pain of motherhood.

With an unexpected plot twist and a stellar lineup, Nkem is already set to be one short film that will keep people talking for a long time.

Commenting on the backstory of the film, Ayodele Ogundipe, Executive Producer and Director, states that the film is set to explore an uncommon area of motherhood that is often shied away from. He further explained the deep emotions portrayed in the film and how it is set to honor mothers on a special day, regardless of how they came to be mothers.

The short film written by Ingrid-Mary Okiya features Oluchi Odii, Tracey George, Floyd Igbo, Chikanmma Romanus, Okoro Uwale Essence, and Amos Mofaramola.

Eclectic 21 is a production company that operates as a creative concierge to service the needs of the Tourism and Educational markets – creating artistic showcases of cultural relevance and entertainment value for live or virtual experiences.

Yeye Cabaret 2020 Postponement

“In line with the directive of the Lagos State Government to ensure the safety of its citizens with respect to the current (global) pandemic, (where gatherings above fifty people are prohibited), we as a brand understand the importance of this directive and have therefore chosen to postpone the March celebration of our annual Mother’s Day showcase this year – Yeye Cabaret 2020.

This is part of our commitment to playing our part in helping to contain this outbreak, suppress and eradicate this disease early enough, so normal life can resume in earnest.

This postponement which is the first time in seven consecutive editions is necessary, however, we have chosen to prioritise public health and safety above our interest.

The postponement only gives us the opportunity to even do more – bigger and better things to commemorate Mother’s Day this year.

In the due course of time, we will announce a new date for Yeye Cabaret 2020 as soon as we get the go-ahead — because our mothers deserve to be celebrated as queens always.

At this point, we would like to thank all our sponsors and partners for their faith in our vision and contribution to this noble project, as it means a lot to us that they have chosen to stand by us as we collectively fight a common enemy Covid -19.

We would also like to use this medium to appeal to the general public not to panic, but to play their part as responsible citizens especially in the area of information management – not to spread/share unfounded rumours or false information, avoid fear-mongering and most importantly observe good hygiene at all times.

We thank you all for your kind support and encourage you to stand in faith and not fear that we shall overcome this outbreak and this too shall pass.

Stay safe and stay informed.
