A Premier Cocktail Reception Celebrating Pan-African Unity, Cuisine, And Trade Diplomacy

On April 23, 2025, Swahili Village, in partnership with AfroFlavour and ZENDCapital, will host a landmark cultural and culinary experience: “A Taste of Africa“, a private, invite-only cocktail reception celebrating the richness of African heritage through fine dining, diplomacy, and artistic expression.
Held at the acclaimed Swahili Village DC (1990 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036) from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the evening will offer guests a curated 12-course culinary journey through North, East, South, and West Africa—each region represented by an iconic dish and cultural ambiance. The event will also feature an electrifying display of African fashion, art, music, and storytelling designed to foster intercultural dialogue, strategic partnerships, and global collaboration.

In addition to honoring Africa’s diverse cultural identity, “A Taste of Africa” is purposefully positioned to boost global appreciation for African food systems and ignite interest in trade, exports, and investment in African culinary goods and creative enterprises. Through thoughtful curation, the event bridges diplomacy and commerce, creating new entry points for African products and ingredients to penetrate international markets.
The VIP guest list includes ambassadors, dignitaries, trade envoys, cultural icons, and top executives, reinforcing the evening’s mission to use cuisine as a vehicle for economic diplomacy and the expansion of Africa’s soft power on the world stage.

“Food diplomacy is much more than what is on the plate; it is how differences in opinions or values are put aside and alignment is found through understanding—often beginning with a shared meal,” said Kevin Onyona, Founder of Swahili Village
Lucky Idike, Founder of AfroFlavour, said, “What began as a dream to spotlight African cuisine has grown into a global mission to position food as a catalyst for trade, culture, and economic growth. We are proud to be part of that movement.”
“By uniting Africans and the diaspora across global cities, we are not only celebrating culture—we are laying the groundwork for stronger trade ties, investment pipelines, and shared prosperity.” Ike Nwaneri, Managing Partner, ZENDCapital also stated.
This inaugural edition of “A Taste of Africa” launches a quarterly international series spotlighting the economic, cultural, and diplomatic potential of African cuisine and hospitality. The event will also be filmed as part of a documentary series by Cooper Road Studios, slated for release in Fall 2025 on major global platforms.
