CLIENT SPOTLIGHT
Over time the term ‘Made in Nigeria” has become the most used word amongst Nigerian entrepreneurs, without many of them knowing fully what it really takes to solely build and own a manufacturing business. Owning a manufacturing business in Nigeria is no mean feat especially the Nigerian leather industry where attention to detail is key while putting the resources together and also trying to meet up to international standards.
The Nigerian leather industry has grown immensely over the years and industry giants like Morin Obaweya, the creative director of Morin.O should be applauded for that.
Morin Obaweya is a graduate of Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna State.
In 1992, She began her career as a curator and promoter of indigenous art and craft. She curated her first art exhibition in November 1994 at Didi Museum Lagos, titled “Divine Inspiration” under the Distinguished Chairmanship of the then Minister of Information Prof Jerry Gana. co-founded Mauba Enterprises with her Husband, a company involved in the supply of gift items and art décor that had its office in Accra Ghana where she met women from all over Africa who were in the handcraft business with their own designs. This inspired her to start her own line demonstrating her design skills. Choosing the medium of leather to express her design creativity, she went ahead to design her first bag collection which gave birth to the Morin.O Brand in 2013.
Mrs Obaweya founded Lifestrokes Gallery in 1995, committed to the promotion, enhancement and growth of Nigerian and African arts and crafts. The Company was located at 160 Awolowo Road. Ikoyi. Lagos. After several exhibitions, Mrs Obaweya was selected to attend in October 2010, the vital Voices in Collaboration with Exxon Mobil sponsored training for Women in Entrepreneurship and since the Inception of Lifestrokes, Mrs Obaweya has organized several exhibitions at home and abroad and to mark the inauguration of her exhibition featuring the works of over twenty Nigerian artists it was declared open by Professor Yusuf Grillo an Internationally renowned Nigerian Sculptor and Painter.
With the support of The Nigerian Export Promotion Council Morin.O has had four participations at the Magic fair in Las Vegas and was also featured in a Huffington Post article in 2015 and recently in the California Crusader News. Morin.O Showcased as an In-house designer at the Now Showroom in Los Angeles California and has held exhibitions in Nigeria, America and Europe.
