| AFRICA NEXT PLUSSIZE MODEL

We are so excited to announce our collaboration with Plus is Diverse a UK based Campaign empowering women and changing the perception of beauty in diversity.

The Plus Is Diverse Models are elated to be walking on the runway for Plussize Fashion Week Africa for the 2nd time. To be a part of something that is once again breaking boundaries in the plus size Fashion industry is amazing.

Fashion is at the forefront of the world… and this includes African fashion!

PlusSize Fashion Week Africa is an amazing platform for showcasing the fashion from this part of the world and more. What’s great about it, is that it will show different standards of beauty and fashion, which is inclusive of plus size women of all ethnic backgrounds.

The Plus Is Diverse Campaign celebrates representation of plus size women from different ethnic groups and are very honoured to be a part of such a great event. This will pave the way for many to see the fashion standards of Africa.

Women are all different shapes, sizes and races, they always have been, and always will be. Plusssize Fashion Week Africa will raise the bar in showing plus-size models and high fashion plus-size clothing in Africa.

AFRICA’S FIRST PLUS SIZE FASHION WEEK SET TO HOLD

We are excited to announce

AFRICA’S FIRST PLUS-SIZE FASHION WEEK

Plus-size Fashion Week Africa (PFWA), is a first of its kind fashion runway show that highlights plus size models and apparels. The event is set to hold on 2nd of September 2017 at the Main Banquet Hall of the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will feature runway shows, exhibitions, business talks, fashion enterprise on skills acquisition as well as diet talks.

PFWAfrica is aimed at maximising the growing focus of the plus-size fashion industry and also the promotion of the African culture. This maiden edition is themed: “Celebrating the real African woman”. It is billed to attract over 20 designers who will take the stage and exhibition booths to showcase their designs and fashion pieces specifically made for the plus sized woman.

Asides the fashion show another major highlight of the event is the search for “Africa’s next plus-sized model”. Successful participants at the auditions will grace the stage at the PFWAfrica and will also be signed, trained and developed by a renowned  Modelling Agency. International modelling exposure will also be gotten through our  partner Modelling Agency. The plus size modelling competition will start form 8th of July, 2017.

The Plus-size Fashion Week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the stigmatisation and body shaming of the plus-sized woman, we believe that every woman should be comfortable in her skin and body regardless of what the society thinks as long as they are healthy.

ABOUT US

Opening in Lagos for the first time is the only fashion runway show ever dedicated to Plus Size Models and Apparels. In the light of realities, this will be the first TRULY AFRICAN fashion runway show! African culture celebrates the healthy looking plus sized woman. She is the everyday woman in the African Office, Shop, Marketplace and on the streets.

Western Fashion Trends has tended to alienate the plus sized African woman, almost to the point of stigmatising her body size. This fact has tended to question the integrity of conventional African Fashion runways with ‘zero’ sized models strutting the runways being viewed by audiences, 85% of whom are plus sized! This tended to create a divide, between the audience and the fashion show.

To Bridge this gap and put the real needs of the average African woman on the runway, the  Plus-size Fashion Week is finally born, thus bringing an African Fashion Feel to an African Audience.

The Plus-size Fashion Week is poised to celebrate the African Woman’s Body, while not excluding zero sized and other sized models and apparels as well. It also not a female exclusive fashion show, male apparels and models are also to be showcased.

The show is being produced by Mahogany Productions & Events and Pr & Marketing by YD Agency.
